The Martha’s Vineyard 20 Miler is a must race for die-hard runners of many levels. From highly competitive athletes looking for a test of their Boston readiness, to dedicated recreational runners seeking to extend the length of their monthly long-run, this race offers the chance to combine a visit to one of the East Coast’s most beautiful shore communities with a race on a fast, USATF sanctioned course. Registration is now closed. Registration for the 2014 MV 20 Miler will open August 1, 2013. The course is mostly flat, with some rolling hills, and circles through the varied terrain of three Island towns. Starting at Vineyard Haven Harbor, runners pass by the Gingerbread Cottages of Oak Bluffs' historic Copeland District, work their way along a barrier beach road that separates Nantucket Sound and the 700 acre Sengekontacket Pond, cross a section of Edgartown’s farming community, and finish back in Oak Bluffs with a trek through the DCR's Manuel F. Correllus State Forest. Be prepared for all New England has to offer: some years are bright and sunny, others are windy and damp. No matter how the weather turns out, this is always a great event. We have been selected by New England Runner Magazine as one of the top 100 races yearly since inception, and do our best to make your visit and race memorable. There are accurately placed mile markers, nine waters stops, and a fun post-race meal featuring Chief Petty Officer Larry Santos’ famous clam chowder, minestrone soup, fruit, yogurt and other goodies. Numerous award levels exist including top 3 male and female overall, age/gender groups, Clydesdale, Filly and Vineyarder categories, and the Running Club Cup. We also have awesome finisher medals and shirts! (Must Register by the end of January to receive a shirt). Don’t miss this race, & start planning your visit to the Vineyard now.
