Q: How is the MV Boys & Girls Club
different from other youth organizations?
A: The MV Boys & Girls Club is a dedicated
facility that is especially designed for young people. As a result,
young people find a unique sense of belonging at the Club. The Club is
open every day after school and is supervised by trained youth
development professionals and volunteers. The Club offers a wide variety
of programs that build character, enhance education, cultivate
creativity, encourage fitness and teamwork and teach important life
skills. This gives young people the opportunity to choose from a variety
of activities. What’s more is that we’re affordable for all youth at
only $20 a year.
Q: What does the Club offer kids?
A: In a nutshell, the MV Boys & Girls Club is a
safe place for kids that is supervised by a paid professional staff who
offer fun and engaging programs
for kids everyday at an affordable price. The Club
offers a wide variety of programs to meet the needs of various ages and
interests – leadership and volunteering, homework help, computers,
games, sports, photography, arts and crafts, youth employment, and more.
The MV Boys & Girls Club offers something for every young person.
Q: How old is the MV
Boys & Girls Club?
A: The Club was incorporated in 1937 as
the Edgartown Boys Club. The original Clubhouse was located on School Street in
downtown Edgartown. The Club become a charter member of Boys Clubs
of America (now Boys & Girls Clubs of America) in 1938. In 1982
the Club became the Edgartown Boys & Girls Club, and opened up to
children island-wide as the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club in 1985.
Q: When was
the Anthony H. Meyer Clubhouse built?
A: In 1977
construction was completed and the
Club moved into its present location, at 44
Robinson Road, Edgartown, adjacent to the Edgartown Elementary
School and the Edgartown Recreation Area. On September 14, 2009 the Clubhouse was
dedicated as the Anthony H. Meyer Clubhouse in honor of the Club's
late friend.
Q: Why is the Club's annual membership fee
only $20?
A:
We keep our
membership fee low so all children have the opportunity to belong to the
MV Boys & Girls Club.
Membership includes unlimited
access to the Club's After School Program and the ability to register
for the Club's affordable athletic programs and summer camp.
Q: Does the Club accept
donations of used goods?
A: We accept items
that are in good condition to be used for Club programs and for resale
at our thrift store. To donate an item to the Club for program use,

Q: Does the Club have an Endowment Fund?
A: Yes. The Club
created an endowment fund in 2009 with a $150,000 gift from the estate
of the late Anthony H. Meyer. Donations made to the endowment will
assure that the Club will always be around for the youth of Martha's
Vineyard.
Q: Does Boys & Girls
Clubs of America (BGCA) own the MV Boys & Girls Club?
A: No. The Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls
Club is independently governed by a local Board of Directors. The MV
Boys & Girls Club is a dues paying member organization of BGCA. As a member organization of BGCA we are privy
to a vast array of professional resources and are required to maintain
certain operating standards set forth by the national organization.
Q: Does Boys & Girls
Clubs of America (BGCA) fundraise for the MV Boys & Girls Club?
A: No. BGCA does not raise money for any
independent, local Boys & Girls Club.

How many children does the Boys & Girls Club serve?
A:
Each year over 370 children become members of the MV Boys & Girls
Club. Many other children and families also make use of the Club
facility through community outreach programs, affordable party and gym rentals, special events,
and other Club programs.

Where does the Club get its funding?
A:
The MV Boys & Girls Club is an independent 501(c) 3 non-profit organization,
which relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses, and
foundations who donate money as well as time, expertise and knowledge.
The Club also holds various events
throughout the year to raise money and awareness.
